The next time we can expect rain in Lancashire and where you are
Written by Skywave Radio News on May 30, 2020
It has been a sweltering start to the summer.
We are still in May but the hot weather has been widespread with parts of Lancashire experiencing highs of 24C with some parts of the county going without rain for almost a month.
We love the hot weather but there is a case for there being too much of a good thing.
The gardens and fields are starting to look a little parched with green turning rapidly to yellow.
But never fear, it looks as though the heavens could be ready to open very soon.
Here is when your part of Lancashire can next expect a downpour, according to the Met Office, and what will happen next.
The seaside resort of Blackpool will be sunny and hot until Wednesday (June 3) when the rain clouds are going to close in.
Temperatures will plummet to 12C at the start of the day and will rise to a high of 16C at 4pm. However the rising heat will bring with it driving rains with a 50 per cent chance of a downpour from 7am lasting until the early evening.
Despite the rain on Wednesday, Thursday (June 4) will be mostly dry and cloudy, with highs of 16C once again, before the sun returns on Friday (June 5).
While June 5 will be bright and dry it will be a little colder with highs of 13C expected in Blackpool.
The first week of June is likely to be a little colder and duller in Preston with highs of just 8C on Friday (June 5).
But anyone hoping for rain will have to wait until mid June with the Met Office stating that showers will be coming to Preston between Saturday, (June 7) and Friday (June 12).
A Met Officer spokesperson said: “Following the prolonged dry, warm weather in May into the start of June, it will have become be a good deal cooler and more changeable by the start of this period.
“The first week of June will be generally rather cool and breezy with sunshine and showers.”
Lancaster is looking both dry and sunny in the early stages of next week with temperatures reaching lows of 19C.
Wednesday (June 3) looks to be the only day when the city will be visited by rain with the Met Office predicting a 40 per cent likelihood that Lancaster will experience showers between 10am and 4am.
Things will be back to normal on Thursday (June 4) and Friday (June 5) with dry and sunny spells a near constant and temperatures reaching the mid teens.
The East Lancashire town is set to have another scorching week with highs of 22C until Tuesday (June 2).
The hot weather will dissipate however, on Wednesday (June 3), when Burnley is likely to be hit by its typical deluge of rain.
The Met Office forecast says there is a 40 per cent chance of rain from 7am with the likelihood that it will stop at 10pm that same day.
Thursday (June 4) will be dry but ravaged by clouds and low temperatures, reaching highs of 17C but on Friday the sun will return with highs of 16C and bright spells throughout the day.
