Police officers witness ‘new low’ in 32 years on the force

Written by on June 5, 2020

A driver abandoned a child in a car after police tried to stop him in Chorley earlier today (June 5).

According to officers, a patrol spotted the Renault Megane but the motorist was not interested in sticking around.

Rather than stop and chat with officers, he made a run for it – forgetting the toddler sitting in the car with him.

Police involved in the incident said it was a “new low” in more than three decades of combined service.

Thankfully, officers said they were already aware of who the driver was, and were able to reunite the child with its mother.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary tweeted: “With a combined 32 years service, there isn’t much #HO40 hasn’t seen but this was a new low.

“They spotted this Renault in Chorley when the driver abandoned the car and ran off leaving a toddler behind.

“Fortunately we knew who he was and the child was returned to mum.”

Officers then posted a picture of the vehicle being loaded onto the back of a truck.
