Kate Garraway ‘hoping for a miracle’ as husband Derek taken out of coma

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway is “hoping for a miracle” and wants her husband Derek Draper to “break through” as he remains in hospital, says co-presenter Susanna Reid.
Former Labour Party adviser and writer Derek, from Chorley, has been in a serious condition in hospital for almost three months after contracting coronavirus.
Earlier this week he was taken out of a medically induced coma but has not yet regained consciousness.
Kate recently opened up about her partner’s battle with Covid-19, revealing that although he is now free of the virus, it has wreaked havoc on his body.
She spoke out about his condition on GMB, and Susanna has now praised her bravery for opening up about her ordeal.
In her column for the Daily Mail, Susanna wrote: “Watching my friend Kate Garraway describing her husband Derek Draper’s condition on Good Morning Britain was heartbreaking.
“She has such strength even to be able to put into words what she and their children are going through.
“Derek… has been in intensive care for almost three months after contracting Covid-19 in March.
“Kate is hoping for a miracle in his recovery and for him to break through…
“Derek is a strong, clever, insightful man devoted to his gorgeous wife and children.”
Susanna also went on to reveal how Kate has been touched by all the support she received from viewers after her GMB interview and “feels stronger just by knowing that all our support is there”.
Yesterday Lorraine Kelly says she “has hope” for her presenting colleague Kate and her husband after she interviewed a ‘miracle’ coronavirus survivor, who was given just a 1% chance of pulling through.
Journalist and Loose Women star Jane Moore said: “Derek contracted coronavirus, he went to hospital, it looked initially like he might have a Boris Johnson experience, and come out largely unscathed, but it’s attacked all his vital organs.
“He’s now COVID free, they’ve brought him out of the coma, they put him into an induced coma and brought him out of the coma, and he’s not regained consciousness yet.”
