Large spike in Covid-19 deaths at Preston and Chorley hospitals
Written by Skywave Radio News on June 13, 2020
Seven more people have died from coronavirus at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, according to the latest figures from NHS England.
It is the biggest death toll rise at the trust, which manages Preston and Chorley hospitals, so far this month.
No other NHS trust in the UK has recorded a bigger increase in new figures published today.
One patient died on June 8, two on June 9, three on June 10 and one on June 11.
Elsewhere in Lancashire, three deaths were recorded at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, including two patients on June 10 and one patient on June 11.
East Lancashire Hospitals recorded one more death on June 12.
No deaths were recorded at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals.
It brings the Lancashire hospitals death toll to 947.
The figures which are released each day often include previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.
This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.
The UK’s coronavirus hospital death toll has risen by 80 taking the total hospital fatalities to 32,354 – the lowest rise on a Saturday since before lockdown.
England reported 67 new deaths, Wales had six, Northern Ireland had two and Scotland recorded 5. However, figures from Northern Ireland are yet to be released, but have been consistently low in recent weeks.
It is the lowest hospital total on a Saturday since before lockdown and one of the lowest single-day increases yet.
Daily hospital death tolls on previous Saturdays were 92 on June 6, 146 on May 30, 180 on May 23, 244 on May 16.
The total number of coronavirus victims across all settings has risen to 41,561.
On June 13, the total figures for coronavirus related deaths at Lancashire hospitals currently stand at:
Blackpool teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – 213
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 230
University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust – 165
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust – 195
Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust – 143
