Written by on June 25, 2020

We are appealing for information after a building fire in Blackpool today (Thursday, June 25).

Police were called around 5.05am by Lancashire Fire and Rescue to reports of an incident in Alfred Street.

Emergency services attended with a number of people rescued from the building.

A man in his 40s suffered a facial injury and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment. A woman was rescued but declined hospital treatment.

Following initial enquiries between fire investigators and police the fire is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and urging anyone with information to come forward.

Det Insp Jamie Lillystone, of Blackpool CID, said: “We have launched an arson investigation following a building fire in Blackpool today.

“Initial enquiries between both the fire service and police suggest accelerants may have been used to start the blaze.

“This is clearly very concerning and we are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the Alfred Street area between 4.30am and 5am? If so please come forward.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 0249 of June 25.

Alternatively you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
