Historic Preston deli market stall Redmans is up for sale

Written by on June 25, 2020

A historic Preston market deli stall is up for sale just over two years after moving into the city’s state of the art market hall.

Redmans of Preston, a firm favourite with market folk since the 1950s, is currently on sale at £95,000.

The business is situated inside Preston’s new Market Hall, which was opened in February 2018.

It is not currently known why the stall is up for sale, but the owner’s ‘other commitments’ have been cited.

LancsLive approached the team at Redmans of Preston for comment but they did not wish to speak on the sale.

Property website Daltons says: “Redmans is a thriving and highly successful business yet is operated with a high level of staff involvement due to the vendors other commitments.

“The business therefore represents an ideal investment for an ambitious and energetic hands on operative or family unit who can continue to drive the business forward whilst keeping the additional wage costs to a minimum.”

The market stall has a reported £598,000 annual turnover with weekly takings of £11,500.

The stall is a specialist delicatessen with cooked meats, cheeses, pies, and hot and cold sandwiches feeding the people of Preston on a daily basis.

The property is available for leasehold.

In May, Preston Market traders were given three-months of rent relief to help them cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Councillor Matthew Brown, Leader of Preston City Council said: “As a council we are pleased to offer the traders this rent relief, supporting their individual business, while ensuring a positive future for Preston Markets.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the traders who are able to continue to operate at this difficult time, offering essential fresh produce to the people of Preston, this is greatly appreciated by both myself and all your customers.”

Coun Brown added: “I would encourage everyone in Preston to continue to shop local and support our independent businesses who are anchored in our community during this unparalleled time.”

Sam Livesey, Head of the Traders Association at Preston Markets said: “Myself and all of my fellow traders really appreciate all the support Preston Markets has received during these unprecedented times and look forward to when the Markets are fully re-opened.”
