Spike in Lancs Covid-19 hospital deaths after day of no fatalities
Written by Skywave Radio News on June 25, 2020
Seven more deaths have been recorded across Lancashire’s NHS hospital trusts.
It comes a day after no deaths were reported across the county for the second time since lockdown began.
There can be a delay in reporting figures, meaning each death is not reported by the NHS on the following day.
As such, increases or decreases in the numbers should be treated with caution.
New data released by NHS England this afternoon (June 25) shows that four more people died at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which manages Preston and Chorley hospitals.
Two patients died on June 18 and two more died on June 22.
The number of deaths recorded at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals rose by three, with one patient dying on each of June 22, June 23 and June 24.
No new Covid-19 deaths were recorded by East Lancashire Hospitals, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals.
The daily figures do not include people who died in care homes or other community settings.
So far, 982 lives have been claimed by the virus in our region’s hospitals.
The UK’s coronavirus hospital death toll has increased by 63 – the lowest rise on a Thursday in lockdown.
The toll now stands at 33,016 after England reported 55 new deaths, Wales had six, Scotland recorded two and Northern Ireland had zero.
It is the lowest rise on a Thursday since 43 deaths were confirmed on March 19, five days before the UK went into lockdown.
On recent Thursdays, the toll increased by 69 on June 18, 95 on June 11, 133 on June 4, 213 on May 28 and 240 on May 21.
The most hospital deaths announced on a Thursday was 891 on April 9 when the UK was in the peak of its outbreak.
The Government’s official toll, which passed 43,000 in all settings, including care homes, on Wednesday, will be updated later.
On June 25, the total figures for coronavirus related deaths at Lancashire hospitals currently stand at:
- Blackpool teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – 232
- Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 239
- University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust – 166
- East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust – 199
