UPDATE: Appeal after cyclist dies in collision

Written by on June 26, 2020

The family of a man who died following a collision have paid tribute to him.

Christopher Lees (pictured), 53, of Wrea Green, was riding along Garstang Road at Pilling when for an unknown reason he left the road and came to rest partially in a hedge at the side of the road. He was discovered by passing cyclists and motorists but despite efforts to provide CPR by members of the public he sadly died.

The incident happened at about 6.15pm on Thursday (June 25th)

Sgt Steve Hardman, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Tactical Operations dept, said: “This incident has sadly resulted in the death of Mr Lees and my thoughts are very much with his friends and family

“What we do not know at this stage is what caused him to leave the carriageway and for that reason I am seeking any witnesses who may have seen the incident to make contact with the Police or anyone who may have CCTV / Dash cam footage.

“I am especially keen to identify the occupants of three small hatchback type vehicles and a possible delivery van that overtook a tractor and trailer carrying hay bales heading towards Horse Park Lane and the occupants of what is described as a new VW Polo in white travelling towards Lancaster around the time of the incident to make contact with the police. They may have crucial information which could assist.”

In a tribute Mr Lees’ family said: “Tributes have been paid to Chris Lees who died unexpectedly during a cycle ride.

“Having studied at Kirkham Grammar School he became a successful Partner at TLL accountants based in Hesketh Bank.

“A devoted Family man, he enjoyed 25 years with his partner and had a wonderful daughter who meant the world to him.

“He selflessly gave his time to numerous local enterprises. He was highly respected by all the friends he made through his many interests, including golf, skiing, and cricket; all of course finished off with a decent pint at his local in Wrea Green.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log number 1233 of June 25.
