Written by on July 1, 2020

A man who conned his way into the homes of vulnerable and elderly people has been jailed for ten years.

Michael Alcorn, 55, claimed to be a workman to scam his way into his victim’s houses before stealing cash. The victims were all aged in their 70s and 80s.

The offences were all committed in the Rossendale area over two days on April 28th and 29th.

Alcorn, of Accrington, appeared at Preston Crown Court on June 30th and pleaded guilty to five burglaries.

Detective Sgt Dave Bowler, of East CID, said: “These were despicable crimes deliberately targeting the elderly. The victims were especially vulnerable as they were all shielding or self-isolating because of Covid-19 pandemic. I welcome this sentence which reflects the gravity of this particularly callous offending.”
