Fears after cars seen at double the speed limit on road near Preston

A man is calling for speed cameras on his road after he has seen motorists doing up to 60mph in a 30mph zone in Penwortham.
Iain Coulson, 41, has lived on Liverpool Road for the past three years, and the problem has come to his attention since he began working from home, as his office faces the road.
He fears for the safety of the children when they go back to school, and those who currently cycle.
Iain said: “It’s always been an issue.
“Since the bypass opened traffic is more free-flowing and more and more people are speeding. They go through the 20mph more slowly then put their foot down.
“It’s an annoyance more than anything but when schools go back and kids are crossing the road, it’s not ideal. I think the council should do something about it.
“All the work they’ve done, they need to have something in place. Average speed cameras would be the best solution.”
Iain also has concerns for cyclists.
He added: “There are people doing 60mph down there which is crazy.
“It’s a wide road, although it’s narrower since the cycle lanes were put in, but not by much.
“There’s not a lot of kids around right now but there are a lot of children, and people in general, who are cycling since the Covid-19 situation. It’s not ideal for kids on bikes when cars go whizzing past – some young kids are not completely confident on their bikes yet and wobble around.
“I think that’s the main reason for the pop-up lanes. Speed bumps would be good but the road has not long been resurfaced.”
Lancashire Police and Lancashire County Council have been contacted for comment.
