Blackburn with Darwen sees another large 24-hour spike in coronavirus cases

Blackburn with Darwen has recorded another huge rise in confirmed cases in today’s figures from Public Health England.
A further 31 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the bringing, bringing the total from 1,106 to 1,137 in the last 24 hours.
The area could be at risk of local lockdown measures in the next two weeks unless the number of cases is brought under control.
Health bosses have introduced new rules for residents in the area and testing has been increased throughout the borough in recent days.
The council this afternoon confirmed the mobile testing unit at Witton Park Academy will stay for another week until the end of Friday, July 24.
Pendle, which this week also introduced new emergency plan, recorded another four cases since yesterday.
Nine of Lancashire’s 14 boroughs recorded at least one new case of the virus.
A total of 51 new cases were confirmed, including those in Blackburn with Darwen.
The data, released by Public Health England, confirms new cases in Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Fylde, Hyndburn, Pendle, Preston, Rossendale, West Lancashire and Wyre.
No new cases have been recorded in Blackpool, Chorley, Lancaster, Ribble Valley and South Ribble.
There are now 8,978 cases of coronavirus across Lancashire.
Data is now based on people being tested both through ‘Pillar 1’ – in hospitals – and Pillar 2 – drive-through test centres and swabs sent by post.

- Blackburn with Darwen: 1,137 (+31), 763.4 per 100,000
- Blackpool: 1,031 (-), 740.1 per 100,000
- Burnley: 452 (+3), 510.6 per 100,000
- Chorley: 672 (-), 576.1 per 100,000
- Fylde: 454 (+2), 569.1 per 100,000
- Hyndburn: 327 (+4), 404.6 per 100,000
- Lancaster: 884 (-), 612.8 per 100,000
- Pendle: 506 (+4), 553.6 per 100,000
- Preston: 1,167 (+2), 822.9 per 100,000
- Ribble Valley: 196 (-), 326.4 per 100,000
- Rossendale: 286 (+2), 403.4 per 100,000
- South Ribble: 516 (-), 466.9 per 100,000
- West Lancashire: 721 (+1), 632.7 per 100,000
- Wyre: 629 (+2), 565.9 per 100,000
One more patient with coronavirus has died at East Lancashire NHS Trust, which manages Blackburn and Burnley hospitals.
The death was recorded on Wednesday (July 15), but no other details about the patient have been disclosed.
It brings the total number of deaths at the trust to 202.
No further coronavirus deaths have been recorded at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust or Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust
Across England, a further 16 people, who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,160.
