Kate Garraway said she was left feeling “emotional” as husband Derek Draper missed out on their son’s 11th birthday party.
The Good Morning Britain presenter teamed up with her I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here pals Myleene Klass and Roman Kemp to organise a jungle-themed party for her son Billy.
A huge tent decorated with balloons was erected in the back garden and there was a Fortnite-themed birthday cake.
Putting on a brave face, Kate, 53, later opened up on Instagram about husband Derek, from Chorley, missing the big day as he remains in hospital following his coronavirus battle.
She said: “Feel so emotional but know Derek will be so proud and pleased.”
Brave Kate returned to Good Morning Britain last week for the first time since former Labour advisor Derek fell critically ill with coronavirus.
Derek still continues to fight for his life after he pleaded to be put into a coma because he felt like he was “suffocating”.
But while his recovery weighs heavily on her mind, she made sure her son enjoyed a super-cool birthday party.
Balloons in green, yellow and orange were also hung around the arch of the doorway to create the birthday atmosphere.
It’s an early celebration for the friends and family as Billy turns 11 on July 28.
Kate enlisted the help of Myleene, her boyfriend Simon Motson, her daughters Ava, 12, and Hero, nine, to help out.
Myleene wrote: “Your party planners have arrived!!!”
Later Kate posted a cute video of everyone singing happy birthday to her son on Instagram.
Her I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here co-star Roman Kemp made an appearance at her son’s jungle-themed birthday bash.
She wrote: “And the icing on the @thecakestoreuk@fortnite cake!! …delivered from all at @global & @smoothradio – thank you all so so much.
“Honourable mentions must go to @ariannemerry for actually finding #partyrings Bill’s favourite biscuit & sorting @londonballoonlady balloons.
“Also @judgerinder for when I woke up this morning to find had NO WATER, not even a toilet flushing , instantly scrambled into plumbing action. Consider yourself seriously happy birthdayed Billy!!!”
It comes after Kate spoke about the promise of reunited with her husband again.
Early in the week, the presenter said she may be able to see Derek in hospital after they have been torn apart for four months.
She shared: “I might be able to go and visit Derek today!”
Emotional Kate also explained nurses on the frontline were going to play Good Morning Britain during her appearance for her husband Derek.
She added: “In fact the nurses are going to put GMB on for him – they have a TV – and they’re going to put it on for him this morning.
“They forgot I was on yesterday – they’re going to see if he can hear anything.”
Kate has been keeping fans in the loop about her husband’s condition.
In a recent Instagram post, she shared her fears her husband’s health battle remains “very uncertain”.
She revealed his battle was far from over, although he has cleared the COVID-19 infection.
The mother-of-two wrote: “Thank you so much to @hellomag for helping me to bring you some of my hopes and plans for the future. The future we are really hoping for, Derek recovering & coming home is not nearly in sight & very uncertain.”
