Written by on July 31, 2020

The first coronavirus-related death for 15 days has been recorded in a Lancashire hospital trust, according to the latest data released by NHS England today (July 31).

The last death of somebody who had tested positive for Covid-19 in Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was reported on July 16.

The new fatality means a total of 249 coronavirus deaths have been reported at the trust, which manages Preston and Chorley hospitals, since the start of the pandemic.

The patient died on July 11 but no further deaths have been released.

It is the first hospital coronavirus death reported in the whole of Lancashire for four days.

The figures released today cover the period up to 5pm yesterday (July 30).

Lags in reporting mean the data could change in the coming days if more deaths are recorded to have happened in July, while the total could also increase if historical deaths are reported later.

No further coronavirus deaths have been recorded at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

As of Friday, July 31, the total number of coronavirus related deaths at Lancashire hospital trusts is as follows:

  • Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust: 239
  • Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 249
  • University Hospitals Of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust: 169
  • East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust: 203
  • Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust: 151
