Kate Garraway has been extremely open throughout her husband Derek Draper’s battle with coronavirus.
And as Derek, from Chorley, continues his recovery after waking up from a medically-induced coma and now testing negative for the virus, GMB host Kate has shared a poignant message with viewers.
The 53-year-old shared an emotional update on Derek’s condition, as he faces a gruelling road to recovery.
Kate, who shares kids Darcey and Billy with Derek from Chorley, returned to GMB a fortnight ago and has been keeping viewers updated on Derek’s progress.
On Monday’s show, she and co-host Ben Shephard engaged in an emotional chat about the ongoing unprecedented health crisis.
“That is certainly something I have been thinking about,” Kate told Ben.
She continued: You think, you know, you just do not know what is around the corner.
“And actually we have all thought that through the virus and through the pandemic and through the lockdown, haven’t we?”
Ben nodded and agreed, saying: “Life is for living and making the most of those moments you get.”
“Treasuring the now,” nodded Kate, causing Ben to reply: “Absolutely.”
Earlier, Kate spoke of her frustration after offering to donate husband Derek Draper blood months ago.
“I was looking for anything that I was able to do,” she explained, saying that she had wanted to donate blood after she had also had the virus and had potentially developed antibodies.
“But they said we are months away from being confident enough to clean your blood.”
Kate has been warned by doctors that Derek might never recover from the damage done to his body.
While Derek has beaten Covid-19, he has been left with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and and is now diabetic.
