Preston, Blackburn, and Chorley Stagecoach bus strikes update as Unite U-turn

Written by on October 13, 2021

The proposed industrial strike action that was set to affect bus services across southern Lancashire this month has been cancelled.

Industrial action was previously set to be taken by Unite the union over a pay dispute.

But bus services are now set to run as normal over several dates in October.

Stagecoach buses across Preston, Blackburn, Leyland, Chorley, West Lancs and more were due to be cancelled over five days this month, with Lancaster and Morecambe services unaffected.

In an update released by Stagecoach on October 12, Stagecoach said: “Following constructive talks with Unite, the proposed Industrial Strike Action to take place in South Lancashire on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd October has now been cancelled.”

Proposed strike action set to take place on the following dates has now also been cancelled. Services are now set to run as normal:

  • Thursday, October 14
  • Friday, October 16
  • Saturday, October 16
  • Friday, October 22
  • Saturday, October 23

A spokesperson for Stagecoach buses has previously condemned abuse towards their staff after journeys are continuing to be affected by staff shortages throughout the county.

Simon Tramalloni, Transport Manager for Preston and Chorley, previously tweeted: “The entire industry is suffering with staff availability so please be kind to those that are working as hard as they can under very challenging conditions. Things will improve (in time) so please remember that when our drivers come along doing the best they can.”
