Home Bargains to open giant new Chorley store with Curry’s to close

Home Bargains will soon open a huge new store in Chorley.
The discount retailer will combine two existing shops at Alliance Retail Park to create its newest store in the town.
The move, which last year won the approval of Chorley Council, will see the existing Curry’s PC World and Carpetright stores vacated to make way for the development. The leases on both stores are due to expire shortly.

The Curry’s store is set to close on Saturday, January 29.
Home Bargains will combine them into one larger unit as well as building a new front entrance and trolley park and redesigning the car park.
A further planning application was this week submitted seeking permission for new signage to be installed on the store and in the car park.
Owned by Liverpool-based TJ Morris, Home Bargains works with the aim of selling “the best branded products at the lowest possible price” and in its own application describes its success as being based on “low profit margins and ruthless efficiency”.
The company says the new store will create full and part time jobs for local people across a range of scales. It also argued that the investment would send a positive message about the town’s fortunes.
Its application stated: “This is notable on a building and Site which has seen little investment in its façade since its construction some 14 years ago.
“The refurbishment works will also represent important private sector investment into Chorley on the A6, a key arterial road into the town. The levelling up of this Site will also display a level of investor confidence in the town which should not be underestimated in the current climate.”
A spokesperson for Curry’s said: “We can confirm that our store in Chorley will be closing its doors to the public at the end of this month, in line with our landlord’s plans to redevelop the site at Alliance Retail Park.
“We’re currently in consultation with our colleagues, who we are supporting through the process, and we will do what we can to offer them new roles elsewhere within the business. Our nearby store at Bolton Middlebrook remains open and customers can search for nearby stores on our website”
Home Bargains and Carpetright were approached for comment.
